Economic Base: Lumber, Agriculture, Tourism Vast tracts of pristine forests and fields account for lumbering, agriculture and tourism-related businesses as Sullivan County's largest employment sector. Sullivan County ranks second in the state in timberland percentage. Sullivan County's land mass is 81% timberland, 57% of of it quality hardwood saw timber.
This is an ideal location for secondary wood processing/dimension lumber operations. Pennsylvania leads the nation in hardwood growingstock. Highest quality hardwood species indigenous to Sullivan County include: Ash, Soft Maple, Hard Maple, Red Oak and most significantly Black Cherry. Sullivan County's hardwood resource is available now and will remain so for the next 100 years.

Product Transportation
Pennsylvania has more miles of roadway than any other state in the country. Sullivan County, located within 50 miles of Interstates 80, 81 and 17, is within 500 miles of 60 percent of the population of the United States, approximately three hours from Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore and Washington.

Work Force
Sullivan County has 6,100 year-round residents - 13.6 per square mile, well below the 50 people per square mile in the nearby Pocono Mountains. Yet Sullivan County has over 3,300 people in the work force. Employers continually praise Sullivan County workers, citing a strong inherent work ethic, low absenteeism and exceptional work longevity. A significant percentage of the skilled workforce finds employment in surrounding areas at large manufacturing operations such as Dupont, Masonite or Proctor & Gamble.

U.S. Route 220, a major North -South transportation route running from South Carolina to New York, bisects Sullivan County.
Sullivan County is within one - four hours drive time of nine metropolitan areas: Binghamton, Buffalo, Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley, New York City, Philadelphia, Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, Syracuse, and Williamsport
Commercial air service is available at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Lycoming County Airport both within a 30 to 40 minute drive.

In Sullivan County, "Outstanding quality of life" is not a cliché. Most potential business locations stress “outstanding quality of life". But many of these places still suffer traffic congestion, impersonal attitudes, high crime rates and stress from fast-paced life.
